Disseminated magnetite has high Ti (9451940 ppm) positively correlated with Mg Al Si, and heavy Fe ( 0.76 to 1.86) and O ( 1.0 to 4. Consequently, it is more often written as 1 2 C, which is written as “ carbon-12,” ( 14 C, would thus be written as “ carbon-14.”) Nevertheless, the value of Z is commonly included in the notation for nuclear reactions because these reactions involve changes in Z. Trace element and Fe and O isotopic experiments reveal various hydrothermal precipitation environments under reduced to slightly oxidizing conditions. The subscript indicating the atomic number is actually redundant because the atomic symbol already uniquely specifies Z. The isotope of carbon that has 6 neutrons is therefore 12 6C. The symbol for a specific isotope of any element is written by placing the mass number as a superscript to the. An isotope of any element can be uniquely represented as A ZX, where X is the atomic symbol of the element, A is the mass number and Z is the atomic number. In a typical sample of carbon-containing material, 98.89% of the carbon atoms also contain 6 neutrons, so each has a mass number of 12. The symbol for an isotope is the symbol for the element followed by the mass number. Each one has a different number of protons, electrons and neutrons. Atomic Number of Elements There are about ninety elements found on Earth. It is a hard, brittle crystalline solid with a blue-grey metallic luster, and is a tetravalent metalloid and semiconductor. The table below consists of 118 elements of the periodic table, sorted by atomic number, atomic weight, symbols, density, discovered year and the group. The table below lists the atomic numbers, symbols, and names of all the elements, with the derivations for the symbols which are not of English origin. This was shown above for the three isotopes of hydrogen. Silicon is a chemical element with the symbol Si and atomic number 14. This atomic number is ordinarily given the symbol Z. An atom is first identified and labeled according to the number of protons in its nucleus. The element carbon (C) has an atomic number of 6, which means that all neutral carbon atoms contain 6 protons and 6 electrons. The Parts of the Periodic Table Atomic Names and Symbols Every element has a one- or two-letter abbreviation based either on its English name or its Latin or Greek name. Every chemical element has one or more isotopes. \): Formalism used for identifying specific nuclide (any particular kind of nucleus)

See a pattern here? Like the previous Kendrick films, War Room tells about lukewarm Christians who wake up to the problems in their lives and realize they need God. In Courageous, a police officer turns his life and his family over to God. In Fireproof, a firefighter turns his life and his marriage over to God. In Facing the Giants, a high school football coach turns his life and his team over to God. The first film from the Kendrick brothers, Flywheel, told the story of a used car salesman who turned his life and his business over to God. War Room addresses the same topic of every other Kendrick film-and that’s good. And that, to me, is the ultimate standard. Most important to me: The Kendrick brothers are growing more skillful with each film, and are growing adept at telling a good story in a way that keeps your attention to the end. But I’m not a critic at heart, and I won’t go into those details. If I put on my critic’s hat, I could point out a few lines of dialogue in War Room that were spoken with dubious acting skill, and a few instances where production values detracted from the story. Of course, it’s difficult to articulate just what these “standards” are in a time when a lot of junk appears in the movie theaters and on television. With so many Christian movies produced now, it’s a common temptation to pick them apart and declare that they just aren’t up to the normal standards of Hollywood filmmaking. Alex directs the movie and has a supporting role. War Room is the fifth film from Stephen and Alex Kendrick, the filmmaking brothers from Albany, Georgia. How Elizabeth takes these lessons to heart and engages in spiritual battle-and how God begins to move in her family-makes for an interesting and gripping story. Miss Clara begins meeting with Elizabeth once a week, showing her how to pray and, more important, how to walk with God. It’s not your job to fix your husband-you need to plead with God so He can do what only He can do, then get out of the way.” She goes on to explain, “You’re fighting the wrong enemy. When Elizabeth begins to open up about her marriage problems, Miss Clara says, “Can I ask you how much you pray for your husband?” “When I look at it I’m reminded that God is still in control, and that encourages me,” she explains.īut Miss Clara’s favorite room in the home is her “War Room”-a closet with prayer requests covering the walls. As Miss Clara shows Elizabeth around the house, she points out her “second favorite room,” which includes what she calls a “Wall of Remembrance.” It’s a list of answered prayers. But their marriage is starting to fall apart, and Tony is pondering an affair.Įlizabeth meets a new client, Miss Clara (played by Karen Abercrombie), who wants to sell her home. Tony is a top salesman for a pharmaceutical company, and Elizabeth is a real estate agent. Stallings and Priscilla Shirer), are a successful, upwardly mobile married couple. To the world, Tony and Elizabeth Jordan (played by T.C. Now out on DVD, here are five things to know if you haven’t watched the film yet. To the surprise of many in Hollywood, it brought in over $67 million in the box office, outperforming films that were hyped on a much more lavish scale. The 2015 film, War Room, from filmmakers Stephen and Alex Kendrick, was one of the hits of fall movie season. 5 Things to Know About ‘War Room,’ a Film From the Kendrick Brothers An excellent way for them to keep the content after we're finished is to scan it and drop the PDF directly into Evernote or Google. As an English teacher, I often assign my students impromptus to write on paper. It's the perfect addition for the teacher looking to reduce paper clutter.Ĭase Use: There will be instances where students will need to write on paper in class. This includes Google Docs, Evernote, Dropbox, and others. Doxie allows users to scan documents, turn them into searchable PDFs, and upload them to the cloud storage tool of their choice. Currently, there is a student and teacher discount available to help schools and their shrinking budgets. Ranging from $149 - $199, these scanners are the right price for the teacher who serves on committees that generate massive amounts of paper. Doxieĭoxie is a portable and inexpensive scanner that can help cut the paper clutter on your desk to the absolute minimum. The student could then pull it back to Noteshelf and make corrections - all of this without using a single piece of paper. If students saved to a shared folder, their teacher could provide feedback on the work. All of these notes can be saved to any Google account and reviewed at a later date. Noteshelf would be a great addition to the tool belt of science and math teachers and students for quickly drawing out formulas or working on equations. It also allows users to import and annotate Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel documents.Ĭase Use: Math and science classes use formulas and diagrams that are not easily created in other note-taking programs because they are text-based. Noteshelf allows users to import and export directly to your Google Drive account and annotate PDFs directly on the tablet. It is $5.99 on the App Store and has some really nice features that make it an excellent paperless option. Noteshelf is the perfect app for these users. For some people, writing notes by hand is still easier than typing them on a mobile device. Noteshelf is a handwritten note-taking app. You can then organize and tag them so that they'll be easily searchable when you need to reference them. These notes can be entered quickly and shared with other staff members that might not have been able to make the meeting. Instead of carrying around a notebook filled with different notes from different meetings, pull out your phone and take notes in Evernote. Notes can be organized into notebooks and tagged for better organization.Ĭase Use: Staff meetings can be long and might require plenty of notes. These notes can be easily shared with others whether or not they have an Evernote account. Each note can store PDFs, photos, and other documents that you want to keep handy. It's free to use and works on all mobile device platforms as well as your desktop browser. Evernote is a cloud-based note-taking application. The complainants claim that damages are more than $300 million. Miller and the other 32 named complainants claim that under a questionnaire used to determine employee status by the courts and the Internal Revenue Service, they qualify as employees instead of as contractors. And they recognize that, or else they wouldn’t have kept me on all that time.” “I still have the qualifications to do the job same as any H-P employee. “It’s not like we’re talking a low-skills or no-skills position,” Miller said. And like several other contract employees, Miller said, she was laid off earlier this month.īecause the majority of Manpower Professional’s temporary employee contracts are with Hewlett-Packard, Miller does not expect to get more work anytime soon. Still, Miller said, she did not get the vacation time or health insurance package given to traditional Hewlett-Packard employees. Though technically she was employed by the companies Veritest and Manpower Professional during that period, she said, Hewlett-Packard had the power to set her hours, train her and change her title from “software integration support engineer” - as set by Manpower Professional - to Hewlett-Packard’s preferred “software/firmware engineer.” So I’ve been at H-P, on their premises, for almost every day of the past 10 years,” Miller said. District Court judge in San Jose, California, has refused to dismiss age discrimination claims in a class-action lawsuit filed against HP Inc. And then, every time an assignment ended, I was qualified for something else at H-P and so I did that. “That three-week job turned into an 18-month position. The manager offered her a three-week contracting job back at Hewlett-Packard, Miller said. But a short time later, she ran into a former Hewlett-Packard manager who had taken a job with a company that contracts to provide employees to Hewlett-Packard. Nampa resident Jennifer Miller worked as an employee at Hewlett-Packards’ Boise plant from 1989 to 1995, when she accepted a voluntary severance package as the company moved some jobs overseas. We have no further comment,” Hewlett-Packard spokeswoman Brigida Bergkamp said. District Court in Boise, claims that the misclassification denied benefits such as health insurance, vacation and sick leave, and retirement plans to more than 3,000 workers throughout the United States. BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Workers have filed a class-action lawsuit against Hewlett-Packard Company, claiming they were wrongly classified as contractors instead of employees. This is when the downdrafts spread out and replace the updrafts needed to sustain the storm. At this point, the storm enters the dissipating stage. Once the vertical motion near the top of the cloud slows down, the top of the cloud spreads out and takes on an anvil-like shape. Below the cloud, the down-rushing air increases surface winds and decreases the temperature. Many different cloud types can be created in this way: altocumulus, altostratus, cirrocumulus. Warm fronts produce clouds when warm air replaces cold air by sliding above it. Fronts occur when two large masses of air collide at the Earth's surface. Warm, rising air cool, precipitation-induced descending air and violent turbulence all exist within and near the cloud. Once the air has risen, it cools and clouds can form. This creates a downward motion of the air. At this point, drops of moisture, whether rain or ice, are too heavy for the cloud to support and begin falling in the form of rain or hail. Within approximately 15 minutes, the thunderstorm reaches the mature stage, which is the most violent time period of the thunderstorm’s life cycle. The classical physical Warm Front model as well as the conveyor belt theory concerning Warm Fronts do not discriminate between the Warm Front Band and Warm. Continuous, strong updrafts prohibit moisture from falling. This type of front is drawn in a solid red. Warm Front will provide assistance to more than 90,000 of the poorest households over the next two years, helping householders to install heating measures and insulate their homes. If sufficient moisture and instability are present, the clouds continue to increase in vertical height. Warm front is when the mass of warm air moves to replace the mass of cold air which results in rainy to clear skies. It begins with the cumulus stage, in which lifting action of the air begins. Embedded thunderstorms, rain, and fog are likely to occur.Ī thunderstorm makes its way through three distinct stages before dissipating. If the air forced aloft by the warm front occlusion is unstable, the weather is more severe than the weather found in a cold front occlusion. A warm front occlusion occurs when the air ahead of the is the case, the cold front rides up and over the warm front. Typically, the cold front occlusion creates a mixture of weather found in both warm and cold fronts, providing the air is relatively stable. When this occurs, the cold air replaces the cool air and forces the warm front aloft into the atmosphere. Warm fronts lie within broader troughs of low pressure than cold fronts, and move more slowly than the cold fronts which usually follow because cold air is denser and. A cold front occlusion occurs when a fast moving cold front is colder than the air ahead of the slow moving warm front. A warm front is a density discontinuity located at the leading edge of a homogeneous warm air mass, and is typically located on the equator-facing edge of an isotherm gradient. There are two types of occluded fronts that can occur, and the temperatures of the colliding frontal systems play a large part in defining the type of front and the resulting weather. As the occluded front approaches, warm front weather prevails but is immediately followed by cold front weather. An occluded front occurs when a fast-moving cold front catches up with a slow-moving warm front. “That was not in the script she just ad-libbed that.”Īnd unlike the previous movie, which set its female Horseman up as the object of desire for not one but two of her male counterparts, Lula is the main romantic aggressor in Now You See Me 2. “There’s a line in there about the motorcycle: ‘Did you ask any of the guys that question?’” Chu said. As the group prepares for a high-speed chase in another scene, Lula balks as one of her male counterparts asks if she knows how to ride a motorcycle. Lula herself points out the awkward “token woman” dilemma early on, introducing herself to the group as “the girl Horseman,” and she doesn’t stop there. She could “let the audience know that we’re in on the fun of our movie, and the ridiculousness of our movie.”īeyond her quirky presence and high energy, Lula also provides the bulk of the movie’s meta-commentary-one of its biggest value adds over the original. “ could act as an outsider coming in, and call out our movie,” Chu told Vanity Fair. (Caution: mild spoilers for Now You See Me 2 ahead.) From the start, director Jon Chu had a different sort of role in mind for Caplan-both on-screen and behind the scenes. It's not long before another girl gets added to the mix-but Caplan’s character Lula is anything but a stand-in for Henley. In Now You See Me, the one female member of the Four Horsemen-a team of underground magician-thieves-was Henley Reeves ( Isla Fisher). But soon enough, a new, delightfully refreshing ingredient gets thrown into the mix: Lizzy Caplan. There’s a monologue about the nature of magic Jesse Eisenberg is still Eisenberg-ing (with shorter hair this time) Morgan Freeman’s Thaddeus Bradley is still rotting in prison, where Mark Ruffalo’s Dylan Rhodes left him in Now You See Me. The first few minutes of Now You See Me 2 make it seem as though things haven’t changed much since the original movie. In contrast, with a low inventory turnover ratio, the business may be holding obsolete goods that are not worth their actual value. However, minimizing the funds tied up in inventory is efficient, but too high and inventory turnover might lead the business into losing sales opportunities because of inventory shortages problem. High inventory turnover ratio (low average days in inventory) indicates the business has minimal funds stuck in inventory. The formula indicates how many times the inventory turnover (is sold) in a single year, and also indicates how long is an item in inventory. Inventory turnover ratio = Cost of goods sold ÷ Average inventory. The inventory turnover ratio is calculated as cost of goods sold divided by average inventory (during a year), as the following inventory turnover ratio formula: The inventory turnover ratio indicates the liquidity of inventory by measuring the number of time that the inventory is sold during a year. In other words, Danny does not have very good inventory control.Inventory turnover ratio is a measures of how many times a company replenished (or turnover) their inventory in a year. It also implies that it would take Donny approximately 3 years to sell his entire inventory or complete one turn. This means that Donny only sold roughly a third of its inventory during the year. Donny’s turnover is calculated like this:Īs you can see, Donny’s turnover is. Donny’s beginning inventory was $3,000,000 and its ending inventory was $4,000,000. During the current year, Donny reported cost of goods sold on its income statement of $1,000,000. Exampleĭonny’s Furniture Company sells industrial furniture for office buildings. For instance, the apparel industry will have higher turns than the exotic car industry. Banks want to know that this inventory will be easy to sell. This measurement shows how easily a company can turn its inventory into cash.Ĭreditors are particularly interested in this because inventory is often put up as collateral for loans. If this inventory can’t be sold, it is worthless to the company. Inventory is one of the biggest assets a retailer reports on its balance sheet. This measurement also shows investors how liquid a company’s inventory is. It also shows that the company can effectively sell the inventory it buys. This shows the company does not overspend by buying too much inventory and wastes resources by storing non-salable inventory. Inventory turnover is a measure of how efficiently a company can control its merchandise, so it is important to have a high turn. The cost of goods sold is reported on the income statement. Average inventory is usually calculated by adding the beginning and ending inventory and dividing by two. By December almost the entire inventory is sold and the ending balance does not accurately reflect the company’s actual inventory during the year. For instance, a company might purchase a large quantity of merchandise January 1 and sell that for the rest of the year. The inventory turnover ratio is calculated by dividing the cost of goods sold for a period by the average inventory for that period.Īverage inventory is used instead of ending inventory because many companies’ merchandise fluctuates greatly throughout the year. That’s why the purchasing and sales departments must be in tune with each other. Sales have to match inventory purchases otherwise the inventory will not turn effectively. If the company can’t sell these greater amounts of inventory, it will incur storage costs and other holding costs. If larger amounts of inventory are purchased during the year, the company will have to sell greater amounts of inventory to improve its turnover. This ratio is important because total turnover depends on two main components of performance. A company with $1,000 of average inventory and sales of $10,000 effectively sold its 10 times over. In other words, it measures how many times a company sold its total average inventory dollar amount during the year. This measures how many times average inventory is “turned” or sold during a period. The inventory turnover ratio is an efficiency ratio that shows how effectively inventory is managed by comparing cost of goods sold with average inventory for a period.
